Bio

Hugh Smith had worked with Arden University for several years as a contracted lecturer, before joining as a permanent member of staff in April 2020. Hugh has held a range of roles at the University including as module author, module leader, dissertation supervisor and also as part of the management team.

His professional background includes experience in the banking sector involving a diverse range of roles from customer service in branch banking, as well as a business adviser, collections/ litigation manager and property sales manager.

Hugh’s higher education background includes working as a business consultant/ adviser and researcher in a specialist tourism center. He also has around 20 years’ experience in lecturing in tourism, travel and hospitality, as well as business and finance topics, at Universities in the UK, Spain and Switzerland at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including dissertation supervision.

Hugh’s research and teaching interests are focused on the tourism sector with previous research outputs including a focus on heritage tourism, business tourism, national tourism organizations, business confidence. Current interests involve Tourism Education and Languages, Tourism SMEs and Finance, NTO and Tour Operator Strategy.
