Bio

David, better known as Dave, is a Senior Lecturer/Programme Team Leader responsible for Level 5 (second year) of our Business and Business Management suite of degree qualifications. His relevant qualifications include MSc Responsible Tourism Management; BA (Hons) Economics; BA (Hons) Tourism Management. He also holds Fellowship status with AdvanceHE, and recently completed his Postgraduate Certificate in Digital Pedagogies and Practices. His combined academic experience compliments his specialism of Teaching and Learning across the School of Leadership and Management

Although Dave delivers Blended Learning modules at the Manchester Study Centres, where he has been based since its 2017 opening, he also delivers Distance Learning modules online. He has taught multiple BA and Foundation Year Business and Travel and Tourism modules and draws on his previous experience of vocational business and tourism involvement in the industrial, retail, service, hospitality, and transport sectors.

Dave has worked as a Manager/Director in industry for 20 years, followed by the hospitality sector as a Licensee in public houses, restaurants, and hotels for 15 years prior to gaining his teaching qualifications. Where possible, he uses the vocational experience gained in his previous careers to inform his teaching practice. He has held memberships of relevant trade associations and is currently a member of the Chartered Management Institute; Society for Education and Training; and Advance HE.

His postgraduate research has concentrated on the linkage of sustainable practice education with the real-world of business, tourism, and the wider economy. This draws upon his MSc dissertation, and the benefits stemming from the School of Leadership and Management’s membership of the United Nations Principles of Responsible Management Education (UNPRME) programme.

Dave looks forward to mentoring on the Arden Enterprise Incubator (AEI) initiative, as he wishes to share his real-life experience in the management of small businesses.
